La cresta de la ola
(The crest of a wave) is an apocalyptic thriller signed by La Estampida,
whose world premiere will take place in November 2020 in the Teatro de La
Abadía as part of the 38th Autumn Festival.
Increasingly troubled by the unattainable dream of becoming "someone", and
sick of a present of mud and servitude, Victoria wishes deeply for the life
of others: for Stella's life.
It is the celebration day against children hunger in the world. Victoria
serves while Stella dances. It is the day when a “magical opportunity”
exchanges their lives forever, making one become the other, and vice versa.
Forever. Is all that glitters gold?
Once their lives are exchanged, Victoria will live on the crest of a wave,
while Stella will experience the bitter smell of disenchantment with a
husband she does not know and whose airs of grandeur she does not
understand, in a house that closes in on her. Victoria, on the other hand,
enters the back room of the most absolute success. And she will not allow
anything or anyone to take away what is finally hers.
What does it matter! What does anything matter: the first girl, the other
one and the rest. A big wave is getting close. A huge wave that makes those
who possess a conscience aware of their lot and those that never had it,
lose themselves completely.
What good are diamond earrings at the bottom of the sea? Why suffer if
everything will end up being washed away? A revealing tsunami is
approaching, sinking the absurdity of our behaviour and bringing out the
great and only truth: we are nobody. And this epiphany will swallow
everything. Also the laughter of those who look at us. Everything. What
good is success at the bottom of the sea?
